The Fresh Start drop-in center is usually in need of volunteers because we can't do this alone and we don't have enough funds available to pay for staff. Please consider volunteering any amount of time you are able.
At least one volunteer is needed during open hours to open and close the doors, set up coffee and soup, and generally watch over the facility and interact with clients. During winter nights when the temperature drops below 15°F and the Fresh Start space is used as an overnight warming center, two volunteers are needed, one for an 8 p.m. - 2 a.m. shift and another for 2 a.m. - 8 a.m. On-site training with experienced staff/volunteers as well as written training and operational materials help volunteers get up to speed.
In addition to general volunteers, we have current specific needs in the following areas:
- Office: Set up files and organize the office.
- Building Maintenance: Supervise cleanliness and maintenance efforts.
- Building Security/supervision: Keep track of keys, ensure unqualified persons are not in charge of the building.
